The roads are the trip
Costa Rica is small on a map and slow on the ground. Monteverde, Arenal, Manuel Antonio and the Osa Peninsula are connected by roads that turn to gravel without warning and by river crossings that satnav does not know about. Most visitors drive themselves, and navigation is the thing that decides whether a transfer takes three hours or six.
