Fill in Visit Japan Web before you land
Japan still asks every visitor for a disembarkation card, and most airports now take it digitally through the Visit Japan Web portal rather than on paper. Doing it before you fly saves a queue at a kiosk on arrival. Immigration also takes fingerprints and a photograph from every foreign visitor, which has been standard since 2007 and applies whether or not you need a visa.
